We know you may have questions before joining us, so we’ve put together this section to give you all the details you need. From travel and accommodation to training sessions and recovery, you’ll find clear answers here—but if there’s anything else you’d like to know, just reach out and we’ll be happy to help.
Our retreat is designed for passionate runners of varying abilities. We recommend being comfortable running at least 10km on the road. The Saturday run will cater to different fitness levels. The key is having a spirit for adventure; we'll take care of the rest!
You absolutely won't be left behind! The routes are all clearly marked and GPX files will be given to all runners on arrival. We will have a tail guide for our main runs, ensuring the group stays together and everyone feels supported. The focus is on enjoying the experience, not racing.
The trails are similar to those for the Gauteng region: a mix of single-track, jeep track, and some rocky, technical sections. You can expect some good climbs and rewarding descents. Trail running shoes are highly recommended for grip and safety.
We recommend at least a small running pack or vest to carry water, your phone, and a snack. A waterproof jacket is also a good idea, just in case. A detailed packing list will be sent to you before the retreat.
Yes, we highly recommend you bring your own preferred on-run nutrition. Running fuel is highly individual, and it's crucial to use what your stomach is familiar with, especially on a long run. We encourage you to stick to your trusted brands to avoid any surprises. While you should bring your primary fuel, our guides will carry water, and we will have a waterpoint on the longer route with simple snacks and water to refill. There will also be some fruits and snacks at the breakfast tables that you can take along with you.
Yes, absolutely. Our registration form has a section for you to detail any dietary requirements, allergies, or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free, nut allergies). Our menu is designed to be fresh and adaptable, and we will ensure you have delicious and safe meals all weekend.
We may provide some speciality drinks at certain meals. For other meals and during downtime, you are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages (BYOB) but we do ask you do so responsibly. We will have glasses and ice available for you.
Our home for the weekend is the stunning Buffalo Hills Private Game Reserve Mountain Lodge. The lodge is built in a unique "bush camp style," with individual thatched chalets connected to a central lounge, kitchen, and entertainment area. This setup is perfect for fostering a sense of community.
For booking, you have the following options:
Share with Friends: If you are coming with a friend or a group, you can book a chalet to share.
Solo Travelers: If you are booking on your own, you will be placed in a comfortable chalet sharing with other like-minded runners from the retreat. To ensure personal space and comfort, all beds in shared rooms will be arranged as single beds.
The lodge setup ensures everyone has a comfortable private space to rest while also enjoying the warm, social atmosphere of the central areas.
Bring comfortable, casual clothes for relaxing at the lodge, something warm for the evenings by the fire (it can get chilly!), swimwear for the ice baths and pool, and any personal toiletries.
The price includes two nights' luxury accommodation, all meals and snacks from Friday dinner to Sunday brunch, all runs, and all workshops.
All activities are optional! The activities are set up for your benefit, but if you'd prefer to relax, that is perfectly fine. This is your retreat to enjoy as you wish.
We keep our groups small and intimate to ensure a personalized and high-quality experience. Expect between 10 to 15 like-minded runners.
